American singer and guitarist Julien Rose Baker from Memphis, Tennessee, is a member of the alternative rock band Forrister, formerly known as The Star Killers. She released her first solo studio album Sprained Ankle in 2015, and her second solo album Turn Out the Lights in 2017, and last year co-founded the indie super-group boygenius with Lucy Dacus and Pheobe Bridgers.
Online magazine Pitchfork describes Baker as a musician that “pens heart-wrenching, delicate indie-rock songs,” while the New York Times says, “She writes sparse, devastating ballads and sings them with a voice that’s both richly melodic and disarmingly natural. Her lyrics chronicle sadness, doubts, self-destructive urges, frail physical and mental health and a constant reckoning with faith.” On her song-writing process, she stated in the same article that “Some songs just fall out of you. And some you have to wrestle out like an abscess.” Julien Baker will be visiting Osaka as part of a tour of South Korea, Japan, and New Zealand.
